Our neighbourhood

The Nursery on Belle Vue Road

Blue Nest sits on Belle Vue Road in GU12, the same road and the same postcode as Alderwood Infant School. For families already walking to the school gate each morning with an older child, that makes the nursery run genuinely simple: one road, one journey, one drop-off in the same few minutes.

Alderwood is an all-through school of around 1,500 pupils, with the infant site here on Belle Vue Road for ages 4 to 7, the junior site a short distance away on Haig Road in GU12 4PP, and the senior site on Tongham Road. Many Aldershot families will spend twelve years inside that one school family. Blue Nest is the setting that comes first, caring for children from 3 months until they are ready to walk up the road and start Reception.

We are also within easy reach for families in Ash, Ash Vale, North Camp, Badshot Lea, Tongham, Farnborough and Fleet, and a short journey from Aldershot railway station for parents commuting on to Guildford or London.

Montessori practical life shelves at Blue Nest Aldershot, where children build the independence needed for Reception
School readiness

Ready for Reception, Ready for Alderwood

Starting school is the biggest step a young child takes, and it arrives faster than most parents expect. Children join Alderwood Infant School in the September after they turn four. Everything we do in the year before that is designed so your child walks in on day one feeling capable rather than overwhelmed.

Alderwood asks its pupils to be kind, honest, respectful, committed, resilient and independent. Those last two are not add-ons in a Montessori setting, they are the whole method. A child who has spent two years choosing their own work, finishing it, and putting it back on the shelf has already practised independence a thousand times before a teacher ever asks for it.

What school readiness looks like at Blue Nest

  • Doing it themselves. Coats, shoes, buttons, zips, hand-washing, pouring their own water, clearing their own plate. Practical life is a Montessori cornerstone, and it is exactly what a Reception teacher needs from thirty children at once.
  • Sitting with a task until it is finished. Our uninterrupted work cycles build the concentration that carries a child through a phonics session.
  • Early phonics and mark-making. Sandpaper letters, sound games and pre-writing work introduce letters through touch and sound long before a pencil is expected to behave.
  • Numbers that mean something. Montessori number rods, spindle boxes and counters give children a physical understanding of quantity, not just a memorised sequence.
  • Speaking up and listening. Group time, sharing news and resolving small disagreements with support, so that a busy classroom feels familiar rather than frightening.
  • Managing a full day. Open from 7:30am, with a rhythm of focused work, outdoor time, a proper cooked lunch and rest, which is close to the shape of a school day.

We are not connected to Alderwood School and we make no claim to influence its admissions. What we do is hand over a child who is confident, curious and genuinely ready for the classroom, whichever Aldershot school you choose.

Before the clubs begin

Childcare From 3 Months, Years Before Wraparound Clubs Begin

There is good out-of-school childcare in Aldershot. Breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs run at Alderwood Infant School and at several other local schools, and they are a genuine help to working parents.

The catch is when they start. Those clubs take children from their fourth birthday, and children need to be fully potty trained, because nappy changing and intimate care are outside what they offer. For a parent with a six-month-old, a fifteen-month-old or a two-year-old still in nappies, that leaves the first four years to solve on your own.

That is the gap Blue Nest fills.

  • From 3 months. A full baby room with gentle key-person care, when most Aldershot settings will not take a child until two.
  • Nappies, weaning, first steps, all of it. Intimate care, sleep routines and feeding handled as a matter of course, with daily updates so you know how the day went.
  • 7:30am to 6:00pm, five days a week. The earliest drop-off in town, built around commutes to Farnborough, Guildford and London.
  • Open through the school holidays. All-year contracts mean no scramble to cover half term and no six-week summer gap. Term-time-only contracts are available if that suits you better.
  • 15 and 30 funded hours, and Tax-Free Childcare. Applied to your booked sessions, with our team walking you through exactly what you are entitled to.

By the time your child is old enough for a breakfast club, they will have spent their most formative years somewhere calm, structured and familiar, five minutes from the school gate.

Aldershot Nursery Questions

How close is Blue Nest to Alderwood Infant School?

We are on Belle Vue Road in GU12 4RZ, the same road and the same postcode as the Alderwood infant site. For families with an older child already at the school, the nursery run and the school run are the same short walk.

What age can my child start?

From 3 months. We have a full baby room, a toddler room and a preschool room, and children stay with us until they leave for Reception at four or five.

Will Blue Nest prepare my child for Alderwood or another Aldershot primary?

Yes. Our preschool year focuses on the practical independence, early phonics, early number work and concentration that Reception teachers look for. We are an independent nursery with no formal link to any school, so you remain completely free in your school choice.

Do you take children who are still in nappies?

Yes, at any age. Nappy changing, toilet training and all intimate care are part of what we do, which is where we differ from the school-based breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs in Aldershot, most of which start at four and require children to be fully potty trained.

Are you open in the school holidays?

Yes. We offer all-year contracts covering 52 weeks, as well as term-time-only contracts across 38 weeks if you prefer. There is no summer gap to cover.

Do you accept funded childcare?

We accept 15 and 30 funded hours for eligible families, and Tax-Free Childcare. Use the fee calculator on this page for an indicative figure, then ask us for a personalised quote.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm, with early drop-off available from 7:30am.

Do you support forces families?

Yes. Aldershot is a garrison town and we are used to children joining and leaving mid-year. Our key-person approach and flexible contracts are built to settle a child quickly.
